Salary to hourly: first decide which amount stays fixed
A fixed annual gross equivalent of USD 52,000 divided by 40 hours × 52 working weeks is USD 25 per hour. Keep the annual amount fixed and change to 50 weeks: the hourly equivalent is USD 26. Keeping an hourly amount of USD 25 fixed instead gives USD 50,000 annually.
Worked comparison
The denominator is the annual working-hour assumption, H × W. Changing it changes an equivalent, not a contract. The two annual-input rows hold A constant; the hourly-input row holds r constant. Annual input uses r = A ÷ (H × W). Hourly input uses A = r × H × W. State the fixed variable before interpreting a comparison.
This table scrolls horizontally on small screens.
| Fixed input | H / W | Annual hours | Annual equivalent / hourly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Annual USD 52,000 | 40 / 52 | 2,080 | USD 52,000 / 25.00 |
| Annual USD 52,000 | 40 / 50 | 2,000 | USD 52,000 / 26.00 |
| Hourly USD 25 | 40 / 50 | 2,000 | USD 50,000 / 25.00 |
A mistake to avoid
“Two fewer working weeks increased my salary” confuses an hourly equivalent with an annual amount. Paid vacation may remain part of annual compensation; automatically removing it can misstate your intended assumption. Do not reduce W for an unpaid period and deduct the same period again elsewhere.
Apply it to your calculation
- Choose the equivalent unit and gross amount whose value you intend to hold fixed.
- Enter weekly hours H, working days D and annual working weeks W; decide how leave belongs in this assumption.
- Calculate, then change only H or W and read the fixed-input label. Use the separate equal-payment model for a payment count you explicitly know.

Sources and limits
Seven units are arithmetic equivalents: hourly, working day, working week, two working weeks, twice-monthly model (24), monthly (12) and annual. Currency selection labels the amount without currency exchange. Overtime, taxes, deductions and legal leave entitlements are excluded.
