How this calculator works

Choose a weekly or biweekly period and record each dated shift with its start, end, unpaid break and next-day setting. Add or remove shifts, or copy the first schedule across the period. Each shift endpoint is rounded using your selected interval and mode before unpaid break minutes are deducted. Net payroll hours are grouped by the chosen Monday, Sunday or Saturday week start. The overtime threshold applies separately to each week, including in a biweekly card. Enter an optional hourly rate and overtime multiplier to estimate regular pay, overtime pay and gross pay before deductions.

Example

Five shifts of 09:00–18:00 with a 60-minute break total 40 net hours. With no rounding and a 40-hour weekly threshold, a week of 45 net hours produces 40 regular hours and 5 overtime hours. At an hourly rate of 20 and a 1.5 overtime multiplier, regular pay is 800, overtime pay is 150 and estimated gross pay is 950. Two 45-hour weeks produce 80 regular and 10 overtime hours, because the threshold resets each week.

Frequently asked questions

Does a biweekly card use one combined overtime threshold?

No. The configured threshold is applied separately to each week defined by your week-start setting. Two weeks of 45 net hours at a 40-hour threshold produce 10 overtime hours, not a single threshold applied to the whole period.

How are overnight shifts and week boundaries handled?

An end earlier than the start is treated as the next day; you can also select Ends next day explicitly. A shift crossing the selected week boundary is split between those weeks, and its unpaid break is allocated in proportion to the duration in each week.

Can I calculate hours without entering a rate?

Yes. Gross shift hours, breaks, net hours, regular hours, overtime hours and decimal hours remain available. Pay estimates are shown only when an hourly rate is entered. Overtime pay uses your selected multiplier; taxes and deductions are not included.

What happens when I change between weekly and biweekly?

Weekly view retains the second-week group and shows it again in biweekly view. Among visible entries, only shifts dated within the selected period are included in totals. Out-of-period entries remain editable and carry an exclusion notice. Review the visible schedule before calculating or exporting.

How do I reuse or export my schedule?

Add or remove shifts and copy the first shift schedule to the other visible entries. Copying replaces their clock times, breaks and next-day settings while retaining dates. CSV export and print use the calculated schedule and totals. For just one shift, use the Work Hours Calculator.

Does this apply my employer’s overtime rules automatically?

No. Choose the weekly threshold, week start, rounding and overtime multiplier that match your intended calculation. The tool estimates payroll hours and gross pay from those settings; it does not infer daily overtime, taxes or employer policies.
